Position Profile
The University of Missouri – Kansas City invites application and nominations for the Margaret Suzanne Neal Endowed Chair in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. This prestigious position will be filled at the rank of Associate or Full Professor with tenure. The successful candidate will have interest and technical skill in the application of artificial intelligence to orthopaedics. This is intentionally left broad to keep open ideas for growth at the discretion of the candidate. Areas of interest of current clinical faculty include, but not limited to, natural language processing, imaging analysis, big data analytics, and predictive modeling. The Endowed Chair will report directly to the Chair of Orthopaedic Surgery.

Minimum Qualifications for this role:
MD or PhD in any STEM discipline with a successful research focus on artificial intelligence to orthopaedics and/or related areas of biomedical applications.
Scholarly and research accomplishments that support a hire at the rank of tenured Associate Professor or higher.
Additional criteria the candidates will be evaluated upon:
Excellence in research with a focus on artificial intelligence related to Orthopaedics.
A track-record of continuing extramural funding through grants and contracts and a promising trajectory to obtain further funding.
Record of high-quality scholarly publications.
Experience presenting at national and/or international conferences and speaking engagements.
Active participation in advising medical and/or engineering students, involvement in course development and teaching.
Ability to work collaboratively with orthopaedic surgeons and resident trainees.
Contributions that enhance the university’s academic programs through teaching, scholarship, and collaborative engagement.
This is a 12-month, ranked faculty appointment eligible for tenure and continuous appointment. The desired start date is September 1, 2025, or another mutually agreed upon date. Our academic schedules and workload promote a positive work/life balance.
Compensation:
We offer a competitive compensation and benefits package. The anticipated salary range for this role is $150,000-200,000 annually. Start-up funds are available to match needs.
