The ISO/IEC 17025 Quality Manager serves as a leader and sets an example of embodying the principles of SCI's quality and safety policy. They are responsible for maintaining and managing Standard Calibration’s ISO/IEC 17025 Quality Management System (QMS) and to assist with calibration laboratory accreditations. Plans, coordinates, and directs the QMS designed to ensure quality calibration of products consistent with established standards by performing the following duties independently and/or as a team contributor. Assist with the evaluation of new calibration methods and procedures. Use statistics to analyze and validate measurement standards and processes.
Primary Role and Responsibilities
Responsible to SCI's Quality Program Manager and Executive Management on the implementation and maintenance of the ISO/IEC17025 quality system which covers SCI calibration services.
Assist technical staff in the analysis and resolution of complex problems commonly found in measurement processes.
Develop and maintain uncertainty budgets for calibration laboratory’s ISO/IEC 17025 scope of accreditation.
Coordinates with the Calibration Lab Manager to provide executive management suggestions and justifications for the acquisition of calibration of standards necessary to support current and future stated scope of measurements.
Designs and evaluates standard operating procedures for calibration asset management software and uncertainty software for laboratory calibration standards and customer calibration events.
Daily tests, checks, and walk through inspections to observe calibration in progress or potential process deviations.
Monitor and maintain replicate and proficiency tests for trend analysis and objective evidence.
Coordinate with SCI sales department to support actions associated with customer feedback to not only ensure compliance with the quality management system but work with designated team members to identify trends, determine areas of improvement critical to maintaining customer loyalty and retention as required or requested.
Handling CPAR database and reporting. Assigns responsibility to managers to investigate and determine root causes and evaluates corrective actions related to calibration work.
Has overall responsibility for the quality of calibration products and services delivered to our customers.
Oversee the final inspection process for outgoing calibration items to maintain confidence in quality of calibrations performed.
Coordinates laboratory accreditation activities and ensures successful renewal of accreditation.
Coordinate with the Cal Lab Manager to evaluate, apply and update decision rules; process customer complaints; ensure compliance to the QMS.
Monitors the ISO/IEC 17025 quality management system and changes that may add additional responsibilities.
Has the authority to provide short term extension of intervals on SCI standards when requested and to meet SCI needs based on valid reasons for interval extension or end of period reliability data.
Perform re-verification of all personnel as necessary to maintain confidence in tests and/or calibrations performed.
Ensures intermediate checks are performed on calibration standards.
Provides training on QMS requirements related to calibration.
Has the authority to make handwritten changes.
Conduct technical audits of the calibration laboratory to verify traceability of standards and compliance with published standards and guidelines.
Coordinate with customer service to ensure an overall satisfactory customer experience.
Supervises the laboratory’s inter-laboratory proficiency testing program.
Is accountable for any non-conforming activities.
Additional Roles and Responsibilities
Consult Calibration Lab Manager and board of directors for continuous process improvement initiatives.
Provide technical advice to other departments and attend meetings as required to ensure quality updates/issues are addressed.
Education / Training Requirements
B.S. degree in a technical field or equivalent military training with a working knowledge or demonstrated capacity to comprehend metrology.
Military Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory (PMEL) certified; or more than 5 years of experience in calibration and metrology for the DoD, oil and gas, energy or related industry and an associate degree in an applied physical science or engineering field.
ISO/IEC 17025 standard (minimum of 5 years’ experience).
Five (5) or more years of experience supervising and managing direct report team member(s).
Must be able to understand and interpret statistical data.
Must have communication skills to interface with the customer (internal and external) including educating the customer as to what information is required and informing the customer as to what SCI can and cannot do.
Must have excellent computer/software skills.
Ability to perform uncertainty evaluation and analysis for measurement standards and associated measurement processes.
Ability to analyze measurement data for identifying abnormalities, trends and/or predicting future values.
Ability to ensure accurate and consistent testing and calibration procedures through the validation of calibration procedures and developing, validating and implementing new procedures.
Ability to design, validate, and document measurement reference material and updated calibration processes for laboratory use.
Must have a valid driver’s license.
Must be able to pass a drug screening test.

This job operates in both a calibration laboratory and a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.
Ability to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes weighing up to 50lbs up to 8-10 hours per day.
Ability to work on and climb ladders and stairs frequently.
Bending/squatting/kneeling/stooping/crouching/crawling/twisting up and walking up to 8-10 hours per day.
Standing- Must be able to stand or sit in one place up to 8-10 hours per day.
Hearing-Periodically must be able to work in loud environments.
