This position is responsible for coordinating programs and projects to meet the City’s Vision Zero commitment to eliminate all traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries.
Essential Job Functions
Develops, updates, and coordinates execution of the City’s Vision Zero Action Plan through a collaborative process with internal and external stakeholders.
Sets performance targets for the Vision Zero program in coordination with internal team members.
Conducts research studies, surveys, and geospatial analyses to inform project planning and design.
Responsible for advancing the Vizion Zero Action Plan goals with complete, accurate and current data points and results.
Responsible for day-to-day completion of project deliverables on one or more specific projects, overseeing consultant planners or engineers, and coordinating and communicating as needed across different stakeholder groups.
Responsible for coordinating multiple efforts to move the project plan forward and in a timely manner.
Coordinates and contributes to the planning and development of capital projects that support the Vision Zero Action Plan and improve safety for road users.
Contributes to program and project website content; contributes to production and distribution of department quarterly reports and newsletters.
Leads departmental public education efforts related to Vision Zero in the promotion and dissemination of critical transportation safety messaging through community and neighborhood partnerships and other means.
Prepares reports and correspondence.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires a bachelor’s degree in Transportation Planning or Civil Engineering with emphasis in traffic or transportation; plus four (4) years of work experience in transportation planning or traffic engineering; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. A master’s degree in engineering or transportation is preferred.
Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.

MINIMUM STANDARDS: SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Traffic Engineering Manager assigns work in terms of very general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES: Guidelines include the city, bureau and department policies, the Georgia Traffic Code, the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices, engineering principles, and the Incident Command System protocols. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY: The work consists of varied supervisory and technical duties. Strict regulations contribute to the complexity of the position.
SCOPE AND EFFECT: The purpose of this position is to advance the goals set out in the Vizion Zero Action Plan. Successful performance in this position contributes to the efficiency and safety of city roadways.
