We are seeking an additional engineering project manager to join a team of 5 others. A strong background in hardware design, PLC/HMI and commissioning of automation systems will provide an excellent foundation to be effective in this role. Experience with weblines, process applications, precision motion control, and/or SCADA systems integrated into ERPs is essential to quote, project manage while doing some engineering. Experience with both new and legacy Rockwell, Schneider, and/or Siemens PLC/Drive systems (among others) and numerous HMI/SCADA Systems would be needed in managing projects from the ground up based off client requirements and/or, retrofitting existing systems.
In addition to project responsibility, this role has supervisory responsibility to mentor and develop 4-6 controls systems engineers. Travel is required during the commissioning stage of projects and may be up to 20% of the time.
Engineering Project Manager
BW’s single point of contact with the customer from initial specification/quotation of the control systems (hardware and software) through the final invoice. Internally generates proposals, oversees hardware design and software development, coordinate field installation, and leads field service commissioning at client site. Optional management of direct reports.
Responsibilities and Duties
Customer Account Oversight
Understand customer’s business, products, industry drivers, and upcoming project loading
Foster long term relationships with customer’s engineering, purchasing, and management contacts
Coordinate and/or provide input on customer contracts and pricing
Understand client standards and quality/product expectations
Provide regular updates to the client on order status, potential delivery challenges and alternate part options
Control System Proposal Development
Review existing systems and assess for upgrade options including safety reviews, obsolescence assessments, and process improvements
Review new machine specifications for hardware and programming requirements
Generate project proposals with scope, control panel, field device and engineering costs, software functional specifications and project timeline
Engineering Project management
Coordinate engineering scheduling with other account manager
Outline project schedules, scopes, and assignments for engineering team
Assist with hardware design, PLC/HMI/SCADA software development, and commissioning as needed
Control Panel Construction Management
Purchase & expedite parts with buyers
Monitor engineering & shop labor hours estimated vs. actual
Determine customer change orders based on project revisions
Use our ERP to create and maintain Sales Orders
Coordinate construction with the Shop Manager and the project engineers including questions, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), and delivery scheduling
Codes and Standards Understanding
Utilize appropriate UL508A, 698A, and NNNY Standards for panel design
Utilize appropriate NFPA70e standards for employee arc-flash safety
Utilize appropriate ANSI standards for risk assessments and safety implementations
Utilize appropriate NEC standards for electrical installation
Engineering Development
Conduct annual performance reviews with input from other Account Managers and Engineering VP
Create development plan for each engineer and provide mentoring and training per plan
Follow-up one-on-one discussion as required
Assist with hiring process and development of new engineers as needed
Position Requirements
Excellent communication skills
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, project management or related field
Systems engineering experience including (10+ years)
Reading, interpreting, finding errors and making corrections in electrical AutoCAD and schematic drawings
Programming PLCs in ladder and function block
Servo and VFD drive specification, configuration, and start-up
Programming HMIs and SCADA system
Designing and troubleshooting systems on a wide breadth of processes
Proven analytical ability to resolve complex challenges and identify solutions that are practical, effective, and efficient
Project management experience to successfully manage a variety of projects
1-2 Larger projects with multiple PLCs and a team of 3-7 engineers on each
20-30 smaller projects that might only be a week of time and single engineer
Highly organized and attentive to details
Good computer software skills including advanced excel tools for data manipulation, high typing rates, understanding of databases, familiarity with sharing data via OneNoteTeam/Sharepoint
