We are seeking candidates with a Ph.D. and/or M.D. in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Genetics, Genomics, or a related field. Preferred candidates will have established themselves as a leader in cancer genomics commensurate with career stage as an Associate or Full Professor with a highly collaborative and extramurally funded research program. The candidate will join the leadership of the Cancer Center and oversee cancer genomics research and direct precision medicine initiatives in the UVACCC. Candidates are expected to have a nationally-recognized, outstanding, highly collaborative, and extramurally-funded research program commensurate with their career stage that addresses contemporary problems in basic and translational cancer biology through computational genomics research. The successful candidate will be responsible for facilitating collaborations within Departments and Centers in the UVA SOM ??and between groups across UVA (School of Data Science, Department of Computer Science, Department of Biomedical Engineering, etc.). It is expected that the person will serve as an interface between clinical genomics and research efforts, as well as supporting the educational missions of the UVACCC and CPHG. Support will include an attractive start-up package, state-of-the-art computational laboratory space, and resources to expand the genomics infrastructure at UVA and recruit additional tenure-track faculty in cancer genomics.
The UVACCC is a matrix cancer center that brings together 162 Members from 27 Departments in the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Engineering, Education and Human Development, Data Science, and in the College of Arts and Sciences. Through faculty recruitment and robust infrastructure development, the UVACC has continued to build on its exceptional basic science foundations, greatly enhanced its ability to accelerate clinical and translational cancer focused research, and built a robust population science program. The UVACC has four Programs: Cancer Biology (CBIO), Molecular Genetics and Epigenetics (GEN), Cancer Therapeutics (CRX), and Cancer Control and Population Health (CPH). The mission of the UVACC is to reduce the burden of cancer for the patients of today, through skilled, integrated, and compassionate care and to eliminate the threat of cancer for the patients of tomorrow, through research and education in an environment that promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion. Because it is a matrix cancer center that is fully integrated within a leading public university, the UVACC has a special opportunity and responsibility to bring a diverse universe of new knowledge and technology into cancer research and care for the people in its catchment area.
The CPHG was established in January 2007 and is currently home to 15 resident faculty and over 50 affiliated faculty. The CPHG is an area of excellence in human genetics and genomics research at the University of Virginia. Our core mission is focused on advancing personalized medicine through the use of genetic and genomic discovery to inform the prediction, prevention, and treatment of disease. CPHG labs use cutting-edge computational and experimental approaches to investigate the basis of a wide-range of disease areas, including cancer and health disparities. Critical to the mission of the CPHG is training the next generation of genome scientists by providing state-of-the-art research, translational, and learning experiences.

About Center for Public Health Genomics, University of Virginia
The Center for Public Health Genomics (CPHG) addresses questions in biology, public health, and medicine by developing and applying state-of-the-art genetic, genomic, and computational approaches to complex human diseases.
Research in the CPHG is focused on translational genomics and personalized medicine — moving basic discoveries in genetics and genomics into clinical settings with the goal of improving the delivery of health care and disease prevention.
