The Department of Biomedical Engineering at the Catholic University of America invites applications for a full-time tenure track faculty position, to start on August 19, 2023.

The Biomedical Engineering Department offers bachelor’s degrees (ABET accredited) and graduate degrees in biomedical engineering (B.B.E, M.S., and Ph.D.). Department research focus areas include rehabilitation engineering and biomaterials/tissue engineering, with strong School focus areas of artificial intelligence, optics, and microfabrication. Duties include teaching courses in biomedical engineering or other related courses as assigned by the chair of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, and contributing to the research activity of the department. The department is the lead site of a DHHS-funded Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center, and is a participant in a second RERC, and department faculty have additional active funding from NIH, ONR, and the DC VA Medical Center. We are proximal to the FDA, NIST, and local area hospitals with research centers.

The department seeks faculty who can collaborate on existing research projects and contribute to future grant proposals. Qualified candidates must also possess a strong commitment to education and demonstrate effective teaching and communication skills. Candidates must have an earned Ph.D. in biomedical engineering or a closely related field.

Biomedical Engineering at CUA is an ABET accredited undergraduate program, which also awards
masters and doctoral degrees in biomedical engineering. The department has strong research ties
with the neighboring MedStar National Rehabilitation Network, Children’s National Health System,
National Institutes of Health, Food and Drug Administration, NIST and other nearby institutions.
