Job Description: Assistant Professor in the area of Bioprocessing
The Department of Mechanical Engineering invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position within the bioengineering program, starting August 28, 2023. Although candidates at the Assistant Professor rank are preferred, candidates with exceptional experience and qualifications may be considered at the rank of Associate Professor.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering currently enrolls about 1,000 students and offers a full range of educational programs, from undergraduate to Ph.D. levels, in the areas of mechanical, bio-, automotive, and materials engineering. A new 123,000 square foot laboratory building, including a 3,000 square foot state-of-the-art bioengineering suite, opened by the College of Engineering and Computer Science in 2021 offer excellent opportunities for research and teaching. The Department has 26 full-time faculty members and expects a period of dynamic growth with active strategic hiring over the next several years. Qualifications: An applicant must have a Ph.D. in bioengineering or a closely related field. Within the broad area of bioprocessing, special consideration will be given to candidates with expertise in cellular engineering, biopharmaceuticals, nanoengineering or related fields. Excellent teaching and communication skills as well as demonstrated research potential are essential.
The successful candidate is expected to develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the areas of bioprocessing, and other areas such as molecular and cellular biology or nanobiosystems, establish a sustainable research program, make significant scholarly contributions to their discipline, be an effective teacher and mentor to both undergraduate and graduate students, and engage in institutional and professional service.
