Drake University invites applications for the tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Operations Management in the College of Business and Public Administration beginning August 2023.
Description
The Management and Organizational Leadership Department is seeking a new colleague to join our friendly group of teacher-scholars. We are committed to excellence in teaching through innovative pedagogy, and to the pursuit of knowledge through impactful scholarship. We are interested in candidates who align with our College vision that business is a force for good, and who would welcome infusing this vision in their teaching and research practices. Additionally, our new colleague would play a central role in helping us further develop our newly-created Organizational Sustainability and Resiliency track of the management and organizational leadership major. The opportunity to contribute to the College’s Master of Science in Business Analytics program also exists.
Candidates for the position should possess a Ph.D. in Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, or a related field. Candidates who are ABD must obtain their Ph.D. prior to appointment. We are also open to experienced Assistant Professors. Relevant industry experience is beneficial. Candidates with expertise in operations sustainability, ethical or responsible operations, and other supporting topics that align with our College mission, are especially encouraged to apply. We also welcome applications from candidates with expertise in prescriptive analytics.

The Department of Management and Organizational Leadership includes a vibrant mix of teacher-scholars who embrace student engagement. Our faculty members are talented teachers who have received recognition for their teaching excellence, both within the University and from professional organizations. Our faculty have published in top-ranked journals, such as Academy of Management Journal, Organization Science, Journal of Management, and Journal of Management Studies, among others, as well as in top pedagogy-oriented publications, such as Journal of Management Education, Decision Sciences Journal of Innovative Education, and Journal of International Business Education, among others. We also proudly and actively support the Des Moines business and non-profit community with our engagement in community outreach and consulting activities. These engagements funnel back into our teaching and research, helping us to bring the world into the classroom and the classroom into the world.
Our department offers majors in International Business (IBUS) and Management and Organizational Leadership (MOL). The MOL major features tracks in: Human Resources; Organizational Sustainability and Resiliency; Entrepreneurship; Non-Profit and Public Management; and Business Communication. We also heavily support the College’s business core offerings, as well as our Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA) programs, among other graduate programs. We proudly house the Center for Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Human-Centered Design, which serves as a resource for infusing entrepreneurship education in our classes.

What to Expect
The successful candidate will carry a 3-3 teaching load over the course of the 9-month academic year. Primary teaching responsibility is for undergraduate courses in Operations Management, and Planning & Control of Operations. There are also opportunities to teach in Drake’s First Year Seminars program (special topic classes built around faculty’s personal interests), as well as graduate courses in data analytics as part our Drake Online MBA and MSBA programs. Further course development in supply chain management, ethical and responsible operations, and other areas would be highly welcomed and institutionally supported. Research expectations are commensurate with the student-focused mission of Drake University.
