Reports to: Supervisor Transmission Line Design, Land & Environmental
Location: Atlanta, GA (Incumbent must work from this location)
Creates designs for new transmission lines and modifications of existing transmission lines. Participates in route selection, public meetings, surveying of routes, environmental reviews, and construction support. Has input into transmission line standards, project schedules, and project budgets. Creates grading plans, performs structural analyses, and performs other civil engineering activities in support of substation design.
Responsible for the design and modification of new and existing transmission lines with operating voltages up to 500 kV.
Responsible for many aspects of project documentation including construction specifications, structure design, and foundation design.
Creates substation site plans, substation foundations design standards, and transmission line design standards.
Evaluates vendor qualifications and bids; makes purchase recommendations for major transmission line equipment and materials.
Coordinates economic and environmental analysis for transmission line routes and relocations. Interfaces with right-of-way agents, surveyors, and biologists to deliver route surveys, easements, delineations, and related items.
Monitors and coordinates the activities of project engineering performed by contract engineering services and other internal engineers.
Develops cost estimates and schedules for transmission line and substation site development projects.
Uses schedule and budgeting software to track and report progress throughout project life.
Represents department in various internal and external meetings and committees relating to transmission lines.
Reviews third party construction drawings to determine if conflicts with transmission lines exist and provides engineered solutions to resolve conflicts.

Generally requires a bachelors degree bachelor’s degree in structural or civil engineering plus 3-5 years of related experience.
Require proficiency in PLS CADD and Microsoft Office.
Good written and verbal communications skills are required.
Recommend experience in construction project management.
Good organizational and interpersonal skills are required.
A cooperative and flexible attitude when adjusting to changing priorities is required.
Perform duties while exercising effective decision making, escalations, and demonstrate effective team interactions.
