We are seeking a Process Engineer (Plastics)
HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE:
The Process Engineer is primarily responsible for optimizing current processes and establishing process settings for new products. The engineer we seek has experience with Rotomolding and will provide input on part and tooling designs for future products. This person will work closely with the manufacturing group and will need strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills. They should thrive in a team environment where customer service and collaboration are important. This individual will report to the Engineering Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collaborate with production personnel to develop standard process times, molded part quality requirements and safe work practices.
Improve performance of production teams through training as well as the development and use of standard work.
Standardize and continuously improve molding operations and secondary process cycle times, part quality, process flow and repeatability.
Interact collaboratively with the Supply Chain team and with rotational molded part suppliers to identify product design changes that will improve part quality and reduce processing issues and cycle times.
Provide input to new product design to help optimize cost, manufacturability, longevity and functionality.
Ensure that the design intent and aesthetics of concepts are preserved through the engineering and production stages of a new product while maintaining part/product functionality and manufacturability.
Partner effectively with staff at other Douglas Dynamics locations to share best practices and resources as required.
Specify and introduce new technologies, methodologies, processes, tooling, gauges, fixtures, and equipment to improve processes, plant performance and reduce costs.
Apply engineering principles to design, develop or modify products and processes.
Lead cross functional project teams in support of operational strategic initiatives.
WHAT THIS ROLE NEEDS:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Plastics Engineering or Plastics Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology with plastics manufacturing related discipline.
Communication Skills: Communicate effectively with other employees at all locations. Sound interpersonal and leadership skills. Ability to communicate at all levels of the organization.
Skills: Three or more years of practical experience. Prefer familiarity with polymer manufacturing processes (rotational molding, blow molding, thermo-forming, injection molding) and design of plastic products and tooling. Skills in metal fabrication, welding, and diagnostics of electrical and hydraulics systems are beneficial. Must have hands-on, mechanical aptitude. Ability to safely and effectively operate common hand, power, and machine tools to produce prototype parts to specifications.
