The purpose of this position is to plan and organize professional and technical engineering operations for an assigned section including street, utility, and other engineering projects; to prepare complex engineering designs, plans, specifications, and reports; and to manage assigned construction projects.
This is a full-time, limited-term, exempt position. The schedule for this position is M-F, 8am to 5pm.

Participate in the preparation of plans, specifications, cost and quantity estimates, and bid documents for transportation and traffic engineering construction projects, bikeway and pedestrian infrastructure improvements, high capacity transit design, and other systems of similar complexity; establish such specifications as traffic and street design standards.
Participate in the initial planning of projects to be proposed and assist in establishing schedules and budgets and preparing grant applications for funding the project from the federal, state and regional sources.
Design and manage projects such as street improvements, transportation and traffic engineering projects, bikeway and pedestrian infrastructure improvements, high capacity transit design, and other systems of similar complexity; establish such specifications as traffic and street design standards.
Participate in budget preparation and administration; prepare cost estimates for budget recommendations; monitor and control expenditures.
Develop and update comprehensive master plans for the traffic and street systems to allow for orderly development; develop and maintain design criteria.
Supervise and provide final review of developer-designed traffic signal and street projects to assure compliance with established engineering principles and comprehensive plan requirements. Drive a city vehicle in a safe and appropriate manner in order to travel between various worksites.
Provide highly responsible and complex staff assistance to the assigned Engineering Program Manager.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Experience and Education
Five years of traffic engineering experience as a licensed Professional Civil Engineer, with two years of lead supervisory or project management experience with a traffic signal and communication networks emphasis.
Equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.
Intermediate skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
Required Licenses and/or Certifications
A certificate of registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in the State of Washington or ability to obtain through reciprocity from another state within six (6) months.
Possession of a certificate of registration as a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer is preferred.
