The Product Manager will support execution of product line strategies in cooperation with the Construction Systems Marketing and Product Management teams to achieve growth and margin targets established by the BU. Responsibilities include portfolio management and tactical implementation of product line strategies. Support the development of the assigned industry sectors through the implementation of business innovations, product portfolio strategies, product pricing direction, cost reduction initiatives, market intelligence and tactical marketing activities. Support execution of the strategic plan by tracking KPI's, value pricing support and sales target tracking.

Formula for Success
Work with the Regional Business Segment Manger in all phases of product management and marketing activities to ensure business goals and objectives are met.
Serve as a team leader for project teams (and in some cases as a team member), prepare and support innovation business cases and provide insight into innovation roadmaps for Construction Systems. Support or lead product launches as required within the portfolio depending upon the launch requirements identified by the team. Update PhaseGate as required and present the necessary gate reviews for approval as required within the process.
Provide market pricing and direction for the sales team, in order to drive value for the materials in the marketplace. Control price positioning, pricing approval levels and profitability expectations for the portfolio as well.
Perform annual competitor reviews to identify potential innovation gaps, market pricing analysis and provide direction to Sales on competitive responses.
Implement product line strategies and measures for life cycle management program. Manage product regulatory issues for the portfolio and understand the future changes that are anticipated.
Based upon recommendations from Product Management Analyst portfolio reviews, help prioritize and implement raw material cost improvement programs in conjunction with Development and Procurement.
Lead production tolling efforts within the business, working in conjunction with Supply Chain and Procurement, when capacity constraints are identified, and a third-party may be required to meet customer demand or when a third-party offering may fit the portfolio for a product that BASF cannot manufacture.
Develop, secure approval for, and execute a strategic product line marketing plan each year. Identify, and be able to communicate and lead new business opportunities within your area of responsibility.
Responsible for market intelligence to provide the strategic direction relative to product warranties, product samples and product and portfolio positioning.
Oversee the continuous improvement of product(s) in terms of quality, performance, packaging, manufacturing process, profitability, cost reduction and cost of goods sold.
Manage the technical data sheets and website content for the portfolio and understand and ensure implementation for testing required by the market and customers.
Oversee type and quality of packaging utilized for the assigned product groups within the areas of responsibility. Ensure all necessary EHS testing and reviews are completed for the final designed package. Work with Product Management Analyst for label content and implementation of new packaging.
Within the guidelines of the Product Rationalization Process, conduct a regular review of the portfolio and take actions as necessary to improve performance, up to and including product rationalization.
Wear necessary safety equipment and follow company established Safety, Health and Environmental policies and procedures.
Follow all appropriate Environmental Protection, Safety, Health and Quality (ESHQ) policies.
Works in conjunction with Communications Department for literature, trade show, industry publications and advertising requirements.
Wears prescribed Personal Protective equipment and ensures that prescribed safeguards are properly used.
Notifies his/her supervisor before undertaking a work activity in which he/she is not adequately trained.
Understands that Safety and Environmental responsibility is a major part of BASF's Vision and Guiding Principles. Must report all unsafe conditions and accidents immediately to appropriate managers or directors. Responsible for the safety of themselves and others.
Must understand and follow all quality initiatives and processes for ISO 9001:2000, ISO 14001:2004 and other ISO regulations, procedures and processes as they pertain to job responsibilities.
