We have an immediate opening for an entry-level researchassistant position in our lab. The recruited person will work with theresearchers in the laboratory studying ocular diseases and immunologicfunctions in preclinical models under a number of pathological conditions. Thisposition requires a willingness to work with rodents and infectious agents, andto work sometimes on an irregular schedule.
Prior experience with chemical or molecular biologicaltechniques is desirable but not required.

Provide, under direct supervision, support for specified researchprojects; collect, assess, and communicate data/results. Assist in generallaboratory operation and inventory.
Responsibilitiesinclude but not limited to: human and mouse primary cell cultures using steriletechniques, and perform bioassays such as RT-PCR, Western blot, colorimetric detectionof proteins. Maintain mouse colonies and monitor mouse treatments, performgeneral lab maintenance and prepare stock solutions. It is also required thatthe person can work cooperatively with others in thelab.
Preferred Education, Skills, and Experiences:
Bachelorâs degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related field highly desired
2-3 years of laboratory experience is highly desirable
Key Functions and Expected Performances:
Under supervision, run experiments,assays, and record results
o Read and follow experimental protocols (May include animal handling, tissueculture, etc.)
o Compile and communicate results to supervisor
o Follow University safety protocols (may include use of combustibles,radioactivity, toxic material, and/or carcinogenics)
o Perform calculations involving molarity, % solutions, and serial dilutions
Prepare and operate equipment inexperimental procedures
o May include blood gas analyzer, centrifuge, pH meter, spectrophotometer, autoclave,scintillation counter, electrophoresis unit, analytical balance, etc.
o Maintain and repair equipment according to manufacturer and universityguidelines.
Ensure laboratory is prepared forexperiments
o Maintain inventories,
o Maintain sterile conditions as required

o Clean equipment.

Varied Shift ; Weekend orafter-hours work may be required, as needed
